Quotes are a great way to convey a point. I’ve used them in previous posts, I’ve noticed many other people do too. The fact is, they can be inspiring! Though provoking. Challenging. And sometimes a little strange!
At the risk of over-quoting, here’s a few quotes I’ve come across lately courtesy of some fellow bloggers:
From BillionareWoman:
“The face is the mirror of the mind, and eyes without speaking confess the secrets of the heart.”
- St. Jerome
From BloggerNewbie:
“The beginning is always today.”
- Mary Wollstonecraft
From Jungle of Life:
“Never underestimate the importance of having fun. I’m dying and I’m having fun. And I’m going to keep having fun every day, because there’s no other way to play it.”
- Randy Pausch
From A Day to Share:
“How much more grievous are the consequences of anger than the causes of it.”
-Marcus Aurelius
From Writer Dad:
“He didn’t tell me how to live; he lived, and let me watch him do it.”
- Clarence Budington Kelland
From Principles for Peace:
“The more you believe in something, the more you will experience it. For instance, if you think people are generally evil and the kind who will take advantage of you, well, then you will experience that! If you believe the world is mostly made up of good, honorable people, then that’s what you’ll have in your life. It’s an energy thing – like attracts like.”
- Stephen Hopson
From Abundance Blog at Marelisa Online:
“You say, ‘If I had a little more, I should be very satisfied.’ You make a mistake. If you are not content with what you have, you would not be satisfied if it were doubled.”
– Charles Haddon Spurgeon
From Simple Sapien:
“I’ve always believed that if you put in the work, the results will come. I don’t do things half-heartedly. Because I know if I do, then I can expect half-hearted results.”
- Michael Jordan
From SidSavara:
“Almost everyone believes that getting what you want makes you feel good about yourself and your life. Common wisdom…says that if we reach our goals, our self esteem and satisfaction with life should consequently rise… However, people who are wildly successful in their attempts to attain money and status often remain unfulfilled once they have reached their goal.”
-Tim Kasser
From Carrie & Danielle:
“The finest qualities of our nature, like the bloom on fruits, can be preserved only by the most delicate handling.”
- Thoreau
From The Positivity Blog:
“Patience is the companion of wisdom.”
St. Augustine
From Lifestyle Project:
“If you don’t know where you are going, you will probably end up somewhere else.”
- Lawrence J. Peter
Thanks to all those sites for providing some great, thought-provoking quotes. Here’s one of my favourites to finish off: “Life is a gift. Never take it for granted.” by Sasha Azevedo.
What are your experiences with quotes – do you have a favourite that you want to share? Or maybe there’s one from this post that you liked…

Hey Ross,
I love the quote from Michael Jordan. If we do things half heartedly, we can only expect half-hearted results. Sometimes we are guilty of just running through the motion and I believe that is the time where we produce sub par results. Thanks for rounding up the great quotes from the blogs out there, Ross.
Cheers

Vincent’s last blog post..Product Review: Get Applause Now!
These are a great group of quotes Ross! I especially like the one from Clarence Budington Kelland – we learn so much more from seeing as opposed to just hearing. Thanks for including me here amongst these many fine writers!
Lance’s last blog post..Ask…And You Shall Receive
Hi Ross: I love quotes and I see a couple here that I hadn’t read before and will be adding to my notebook. Thank for including me and for the link
I like to put quotes on my wallpaper which helps me in the middle of my work days.
I love all the quotes you listed! I can’t pick out the one I like the most because they all speak to me in different ways.
Carla’s last blog post..Holiday Gift Ideas | Not Buying it
@Vincent – Hi, yeah Michael Jordan holds a fair amount of credibility too, doesn’t he?!

@Lance – Did you notice 2 of these were actually yours I believe? One from a guest post on another site….
@Marelisa – No probs, thanks for visiting!
@Carla – I agree, it’s good to put them somewhere where you can look back on them from time to time. Thanks for your thoughts!
Thanks Ross for the kind words and link. I was trying to pick a favorite while I was reading them all and like Carla, too many spoke to me.
I am usually not too concerned with who is credited with the quote. However, years and years ago when I was struggling with the decision whether or not to start my own business a friend gave me this quote –
“The best thing to do is the right thing, the next best thing to do is the wrong thing, the worst thing to do is nothing.”
That truly was what made me make the decision to start my own business. I can’t remember who the author was and I wish I knew. It doesn’t matter too much, but this one has stayed with me so long I would really like to know. I can’t find it anywhere!
Dee Langdon – BloggerNewbie’s last blog post..The Wise Sheep
@Dee – cheers for sharing the quote, I like it..!
@Dee: I don’t know the author of that quote, but Steve Pavlina said something almost identical in this podcast I listened to yesterday. (http://www.alexshalman.com/2008/11/24/alexshalmancom-podcast-003-interviewing-steve-pavlina/) He said, “Both success and failure are learning experiences that lead to growth. The worst thing you can do is stand still.”
@Ross: Two of my favorite quotes are:
“Until one is committed, there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back– Concerning all acts of initiative (and creation), there is one elementary truth that ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans: that the moment one definitely commits oneself, then Providence moves too. All sorts of things occur to help one that would never otherwise have occurred. A whole stream of events issues from the decision, raising in one’s favor all manner of unforeseen incidents and meetings and material assistance, which no man could have dreamed would have come his way. Whatever you can do, or dream you can do, begin it. Boldness has genius, power, and magic in it. Begin it now.” – Goethe
…and this one, which is even longer, but is so amazing and inspiring that we printed it out and hung it on our wall. http://xkcd.com/137/ It’s about expressing yourself truly and authentically.
