Life is a Dream

Thirty Days to Change Your Life is a new e-book by Michael Miles of Effortless Abundance. Michael is an author who is passionate about concepts like meaning, purpose and the wonderful adventure of life. His studies and life experiences have developed quite an interesting writing style, and I’m really pleased to be able to review this new e-book. My sincere thanks to Michael for the review copy.

First Glance
The first thing I noticed about this e-book, aside from the fact it’s around 115 pages long, is that it includes a rather comprehensive 6 page introduction on what it’s all about, and how to use the book.

So what it this book all about? Thirty Days to Change Your Life is exactly as it sounds – thirty short chapters of ideas, challenges and messages of inspiration that by themselves cause you to think about your own life and what you’re trying to achieve. Collectively however, they take on a much greater effect. Read more »

The secret to 63 years of marriage

Couple In Love
credit: Hamed Masoumi

So I happened across an elderly couple recently, she was sick and he was fussing over her.

They were foreigners, I could tell from their accents, perhaps Czech.

I wondered (as I do from time to time) if they had been a couple for quite some time. Let me just note at this point that I have previously smiled at an elderly couple and asked how long they had been together and received the reply “oh, 18 months now!” so nothing really surprises me these days.

Anyway, getting back to the Czech’s. Something about them seemed bonding, maybe it was the look in his eyes as he was leaving her for the night, I’m not sure. I asked him how long they had been together.

“Just a short time” he replied. “63 years of marriage”. Read more »

Make money doing what you love – really?

Make Money Doing What You Love

What a great concept, huh? If only it were that simple!

For many people, me included, doing what you love has more to do with getting away from the mindset of work and away from the money-generating world. Maybe you love going to the beach or watching the footy + beer and pizza.

Take me for example: I love to go hang out in coffee shops, reading books and drinking espresso’s as the hours tick by. Am I likely to be paid for this, despite the e-book’s I’ve bought that tell me I can? No sir. On the other hand, let’s say I enjoy blogging – is this something I can monetize and turn into a revenue stream? Sure.

So what I want to talk about today is not really how to take a vacation and make money at the same time, it’s more about “what can I do that I don’t mind spending time on, that can also bring me in some cash” a.k.a, “right now I loathe my job and it’s bleeding my soul dry!” Read more »

Turning a Business Idea into Reality: a case study

Australian Gifts

I’m just so supportive of people who come up with great ideas, but especially so of those who have the perseverance, drive and motivation to push forward and turn that idea into a reality. Starting up a new business is a fantastic venture, but as we all know nothing will happen unless you get out there and make it happen.

An example of this is a brand new business that has been launched in my hometown of the Sunshine Coast, Australia. Read more »

Giving up on life

How to be a better person
credit: mkorchia

Have you hit rock bottom?

Are things not going well for you right at this moment in life?

I’m not here to patronise you by telling you that everything is ok, and life is always easy. I would like to tell you that life really does surprise you sometimes, and things often have a way of working out in the long run if you only give it a chance. Get through today and I promise you that tomorrow will bring new opportunities, a fresh mind, a new way of looking at things.

Don’t try to do things in your own strength – sometimes you need to man (or woman) up and ask for help. Don’t try and get through tough times all on your own strength. Let someone else know how you’re feeling – friends, professionals, family – let someone know you’re doing things tough & you will be amazed at the ways that things can work out.

When is it time to give up?

A search string that recently referred someone to this site was the phrase when it’s time to give up on life.

It struck a bit of a chord with me and got me thinking about the question it poses: what do we do if we hit a point so low we are found typing about giving up into a search engine? Maybe some people are not literally at a point of giving up but it’s more a cry of desperation or frustration, a kind of ‘what do I do now!’ situation. So many others however really are feeling like there is no point to life.

Even though I have so much to be thankful for in my own life, it’s certainly not always been completely trouble or pain free – the fact is, we all go through our share of ups and downs in life.

When is it time to give up on life? Is there ever a time? Read more »

Becoming a better person

From time to time in life I get feelings of dissatisfaction for some reason or other. Maybe it’s because of work if I’m having a bad week, or maybe its because of money, or maybe I just recognise that I’m not happy with myself at that particular time. When this happens Read more »

Hundreds walk past a collapsed teenager

When you read articles like this one about a collapsed teenager who received no help from hundreds of people who walked past, do you suppose this is an indication of today’s society in general? Or is there a reason people don’t like to help out?

This isn’t the first article I’ve read of this nature, but it’s always a little intriguing – what makes someone walk past another person without checking that they’re ok?

“The young university student, who did not want to be identified, collapsed to the pavement outside a crowded Perth department store as she was walking to the train station, but received no offers of help from the hundreds of people who walked past. ”

“The young woman was described by her family yesterday as slightly built, well-dressed and kind.”

A life of Passion

credit: Hamed Parham

Ever feel like your energy and drive in life is filled with peaks and troughs? This week has been rather turbulent for me with a few different ups and downs. Some song lyrics by the amazing Dave Matthews reminded me simply about something we forget from time to time: having passion in life.

Passion has so many dynamics and can be applied to so many things, with each one often overlapping and spreading to others. The joy and love for life that accompanies passion makes me wonder – why is it that we lose this drive sometimes?

Think and grow rich

The best seller “Think and Grow Rich” has been around for a looooong time. In fact, it was first published in 1937!

I finally bit the bullet and read think and grow rich for the first time just a few months ago. Everywhere I turned I seemed to hear about this book! It features time and time again as one of the highest regarded books on finance, money and personal growth on many websites, reviews and testimonies I’ve read.

The book itself sums up it’s contents well, describing how Napoleon Hill developed a simple but powerful 13-step formula to help you to:

  • identify your goals
  • master the secret of true and lasting success
  • obtain whatever you want in life
  • join the ranks of the super-successful
