Are you ever restless like me? Lately I’ve had an ever growing niggle in my soul that’s crying out “there’s more than this!” I’m restless because I’m hungry. Hungry to soak up as much information as I can in order to make myself a better person, but also to improve my personal levels of satisfaction. I’m so excited and enthusiastic at the prospect of making my life as great as it can be, that I forget to look after myself at times!
I once read a post in reference to the frequently heard complaint “I don’t have enough time”, or “I’m just too busy”. The poster was correct in saying that needing time to do the things you want to do has little to do with making more time - it’s really all about how badly you want it, and what your priorities are. Not enough time actually gets around 94 million hits on google! Everyone has the same amount of time in a day, the challenge is to juggle priorities - if you really want something badly, you’ll find time.
And so I find time. I find time to blog, I find time to read, time to learn and listen, time to focus on my goals. I plan things, evaluate, dream… and therein lies the dilemma!
What happens when you are struck by the realization that life is not all about working nine to five, and you begin a quest for more? You learn about attitude. You change your mindset. You learn about ways to enjoy your life more, why you should spend more time with family, how to make more money.
Don’t get me wrong, I love this journey that I’m on! I know in my heart I’m onto something truly great, and I’m really passionate about my quest for more.
Clearly, though, I’m heading towards burning the candle at both ends. If I’m not careful, my quest for knowledge and change could turn into frustration and burnout. Has this ever happened to you?
Finding time for me
How many times have you sat at the computer hour after hour and convinced yourself you’re being productive, when really you could have used that time to go for a jog or go out for coffee?
What are your priorities, and do you actually live them or fool yourself into thinking you do? Are you like me where you’ve been guilty of skipping meals or surviving on very little sleep just to fit more in to the day?
This week I’m going to:
- Find time for me. By this I mean regardless of priorities, regardless of other commitments, every day I’m going to make sure I take time out for me.
- Relax. Life is a journey! It doesn’t need to all happen today.
- Enjoy life. This really begins with appreciating the things around you. Looking at birds, insects, people. Smelling the air, tasting new tastes - enjoying life, it really is amazing.
I’d like to recommend two great resources that remind you to take time for yourself and show you how to go about it from the following people:
Eric at Motivate Thyself: 21 simple pleasure you can enjoy in a moment’s notice,
and zenhabits: How to live a life of contentment.
If you’re like me and have a passion for something, great! But are you neglecting yourself?
